Grinds Classes

What do James “Cha” Fitzpatrick, Tommy Walsh and John Tennison have in common? All three are top class Kilkenny hurlers and all three got A1’s in honours maths when they sat their leaving cert.

While Brian Cody, the Kilkenny manager, can claim some credit for their sporting success, it’s another man, Carl Lynch, who played a big part in their academic achievements.

He was their maths teacher in St. Kieran’s College, Kilkenny, and now one of the driving forces behind Revise.ie, a new learning resource for secondary school students.

It allows students to download 100’s of video tutorials and revision notes for Leaving and Junior Cert Maths. It also organises revision classes in a wide range of exam subjects as well as supervised study in various venues across the country.

According to Carl, many students find it difficult to study and get easily distracted. They want to do well in their exams but just need that extra support.

Parents also want what’s best for their children. They want to give them as much support in their study as possible. At the same time, they don’t want to push them too hard.

When asked about his mentor, the Kilkenny captain, James “Cha” Fitzpatrick had this to say: “Carl’s a great maths teacher. I couldn’t have done it without him. And this new project of his, Revise.ie, is a fantastic idea. I can see it being a huge success.”

With a wide variety of learning options, students can choose what suits them best. The videos and notes are easy to follow. Carl and his fellow teachers are among the best in the country.
